WELCOME!
I’m so thrilled you’re interested in working together!
HERE’S THE PROCESS:
Step One: Scheduling Your Session
In order to reserve a date, you will sign some paperwork and pay a session fee of $250. If we haven’t already, the easiest way for us to compare calendars is for you to email or call me with a few dates that work for your family - I always try to be as flexible as possible, and once we find a date, booking is 100% online and takes just a few minutes. As you pull out your calendar, here are a few things to consider:
In South Florida, October through May is the busiest time for outdoor family photos. If you’d like a session during that time (ESPECIALLY if you want a weekend slot), please get in touch as soon as possible!
If you have a particular date or holiday by which you need prints or gifts (Mother’s Day, Hanukkah, Christmas etc.), be sure to book your session for at least one month in advance of that date to ensure sufficient processing and printing time.
Babies and young children are almost universally at their best first thing in the morning, which just happens to also be a great time of day for beautiful light. If you have children under five years old, I encourage you to consider a session at or as close to sunrise as you can reasonably be ready.
If you have older children or have one of those rare babies who doesn’t do mornings, the other time of day that gives us great light is late afternoon/early evening… usually around 1.5 hours before sunset.
Beautiful photographs can be made in any kind of weather, but I understand there are some downsides to being photographed in the pouring rain. I can and do reschedule session for inclement weather, but I am also happy to use your home if sticking to the schedule is a priority.
Step Two: The Session Itself
Once we’ve decided on a time and date and officially put your session on the books, I’ll send you a getting ready guide that will walk you through everything from choosing outfits to strategies for getting kids to cooperate. That guide has been created and refined over years of experience, so it typically answers 90% of the questions that come up, but I’m always happy to set up a time to chat if you want additional help.
A few days before our session is scheduled, I’ll reach out to confirm our time and location… at that point, if the forecast is questionable or someone seems to be coming down with the flu, we can talk about our rescheduling options. Otherwise, that’s the perfect time to ask any last-minute questions or let me know if you’ve come up with a fun idea we haven’t discussed.
The day of the session, please block off 2-2.5 hours (3-3.5 hours for a newborn). Typically we’re done in 90 minutes or so, but I don’t charge by the hour, so if there’s some kind of wardrobe malfunction or child meltdown, I like to stay flexible. If a parent has to leave for an important business meeting but the rest of the family is still available, that’s fine… just let me know ahead of time so I can focus on getting that parent in the frame more when they’re still available.
Finally, take a breath and relax… I promise to give the grown-ups (and kids) breaks throughout the session as needed, and to make it as painless as possible for everyone involved.
Step Three: The Fun Part!
Within just a couple weeks of your session, you’ll receive an email from me with a link to a slideshow that includes all of your fully edited images. Once you’ve had a chance to see them and marvel for a bit (you’ll have a 24 hour window for this part), you’ll let me know which collection you want to purchase. After that, you’ll have a full month to select the specific digital files and print items you want to use to fill that collection… zero pressure!

What you’re going to do with your images is perhaps the most important aspect to consider when you’re planning for a photo session, but it’s all too often the aspect that’s overlooked… all that time and money invested deserve a better return than photos gathering dust on a hard drive somewhere. You’ll never get that same feeling looking at your photos on a screen as you will seeing them on your wall or flipping through the pages of an album, so I include a substantial print credit with every collection. Step 4: After Your Session
The vast majority of my clients walk away from their session relieved by how easy the process was, thrilled with their images, grateful that they went ahead and took the plunge, and resolved to keep up with family photos going forward. I aim to make that process even easier for them.
Currently in the works is the HMP Family Yearbook Club, which will reward families committed to documenting their families regularly with discounted pricing, priority scheduling, automated monthly payment plans, and loads of special perks. This will be available after any family works with me that first time, and all clients who have worked with me in the past will be the first to receive invitations to join.
There will be no obligation, of course - it’s just one way to ensure that regular family photos can become a set it and forget it part of your busy life. More details to come!
FAQs
-
You can plan for your session to last around 90 minutes… not because I limit the time - I stay until we’ve got what we need - but because kids (and let’s be real, adults too) tend to start to fade right around the 90 minute mark. A hour and a half is plenty of time to capture a wide variety of activities and backdrops while keeping it fun and easy. Some little ones reach their limit a bit sooner than 90 minutes, and that’s okay too!

When it comes to photos, I’m a big believer in quality over quantity. We all have a million photos on our phone that sit neglected, in no small part due to the sheer volume. After the session, I careful sift through the images to select the best of the best, which typically ends up being around 60. I then fully edit each and every one so that you have a gorgeous set of final images to enjoy (and actually do something with).

I absolutely love both natural outdoor locations and in-home sessions in your own comfortable space. Each has a unique feel, depending on the best fit for your family’s personality. Check out this blog post for a list of some of my favorite session locations.
