2012: my favorites

This post is long. It was hard to pick. I narrowed as much as I could, and what I ended up with is kind of a montage of my year. A mix of personal work and commissioned work. It was fun to look back on all that happened last year. 2012 was so good. It brought the birth of my second child, a lot of growth in my business and a lot of growth in myself.

I am thankful, and I have high hopes for 2013. I can feel that awesome things are going to happen. I know it is going to be amazing.

Connor Cruz | A Birth Story

I am so happy to share this with you, for so many reasons. For one thing, this was my very first time documenting a birth. This is something I have been wanting to do for quite a while. Also, being the first, this is the birth that has solidified my love for the genre of birth photography and made me so excited to make this a regular part of what I do. It was also amazing because I have known this mama since she was about 14 years old. I was lucky enough to do a Beloved session with these proud new parents last year, so it was wonderful to see them again and be there to capture the birth of their first child. A few weeks before baby Connor's expected due date, they learned that he was breech. Despite much encouragement from his parents, through chiropractic care and other natural methods, to flip over, he wouldn't budge. On September 4th, he was born via c-section in Stuart, Florida. While hospital policy would not allow me into the operating room, it was still truly amazing to capture so many other details of Connor's first few hours. He is a healthy, beautiful baby, and lucky to have such loving parents!
